House of Gallagher
In fashion we are seeing designers continuously engendering new and aberrant styles to the catwalk. The 2010 collection by Matthew Gallagher 2010 is a perfect example of play on shape, nevertheless the garments maintain their sensuality and do not mutate the female figure. He uses a minimal palette of pearl-like colours. This combination of whites, creams and beiges exudes a sort of purity. The delicacy of the silks and chiffons united with the clean cuts of the skirts and shorts convey an elegant, yet pretty style. The lines Gallagher uses in his designs compliment the figure, while the way he has manipulated the chiffon and silk with various drapes and gathers, truly exposes the natural beauty of the materials. One word that best describes this collection would be simply ‘lovely’. The mergence of heart-shape bustiers, bubble skirts, peplums and gathers, gives the collection a very princess like appeal.
Matthew Gallagher, born 1986, in Canada, showed and interest in fashion from an early age. Gallagher was keen to infiltrate the fashion world and made contact with Tom Ford and the late Kal Ruttenstein, from whom he later received letters of recommendation. His eagerness paid off in view of the fact that in 2003 he was granted an Internship with New York designer, Tracy Reece after he completed the intensive studies course at Parsons School of Design. However, in 2007 Gallagher was captivated by Italy and moved to Milan in 2008, where he was awarded a scholarship in 2009 to study Fashion Design at Istituto Europeo di Design.
His recent relocation to Italy is proving to have a positive effect, it seems to have broadened his discernment and added a sense of gracefulness to his style. All in all, this collection is a good introduction to Gallagher’s work and an illustration of the potential of this up-coming designer. It is a known fact that every girl wants to feel like a princess from time to time and Gallagher has utilized this idea to create an alluring collection. The collection exemplifies the designer’s inclination toward observation of peoples dress attire. Such characteristics fostered the designer’s impeccable taste and will assist him in creating more collections such as this one. These garments are purchasable on catwalk genius.
