Jean Paul Gaultier and La Perla

Lingerie continues to escalate in the world of fashion. It seems women and men around the world are taking particular interest in their intimate wear. This fashion category is rising and becoming progressively more eminent in consequence of many prominent designers showing interest in expanding their labels to include lingerie. Other than that, more and more often lingerie houses are collaborating with designers coming from other fields in order to make inimitable lingerie pieces. One such collaboration is that of Jean Paul Gaultier and La Perla for Fall 2010. The unique creativity of Jean Paul Gaultier and the refined skills that La Perla is known for, come together to generate masterpieces in an exclusive range.

Although Jean Paul Gaultier is not entirely new to lingerie, having designed the famous cone-bra in 1990 worn by Madonna, he is currently most recognised for his extreme haute-couture creations. The style of Jean Paul Gaultier is a blend of the London street scene and Parisian couture, it is very bizarre and ferocious, yet his designs always persist to compliment the female figure. La Perla is renowned for expertise in luxurious lingerie, celebrating femininity and the female body. The outcome of this fab combination, retains the familiar elegance and craftsmanship of La Perla, but adds an edge to lingerie that could not be done better by anyone other than Gaultier. Furthermore, the alliance unites the proficiency of two leading countries in fashion, Italy and France.

“Collection Créateur” as it is called, will be available for purchase from November 2010 in specially selected stores and boutiques. However, a few of the Special Limited Edition garments were on view at the Jean Paul Gaultier Autumn/Winter 2010-2011 Haute Couture Show in Paris, during July.  The collection has a strong focus on the Soutache process, where strings of silk are hand stitched in order to create various patterns, a method customarily used by La Perla. This technique was used to decorate the bustiers, slips and waist cincher corsets, providing the collection with an almost sculptural appeal. Nevertheless, the pieces appear very graceful through the delicacy and the softness of the materials that were used. Classic lingerie colours were elected for the collection, assortments of pale-pink and black silk predominantly. From what we have seen so far, La Perla and Jean Paul Gaultier have established exceptional pieces of lingerie through their partnership. The garments are beautiful to look at, as they are very picturesque and full of ornate detail, leaving us hungry to see more.
