Ewa i Walla s/s 2011

Home-grown designers have just drawn the curtains on a hectic period in Scandinavia. The focus on the Spring and Summer collections for the pending calendar year were on display in the northern European capitals. Nestled in the middle of the schedule, on the last day, at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Stockholm, Ewa i Walla was given the opportunity to narrate her tale through her garments. The collection was spirited with edgy patterns placed unconventionally, coupled with an uncanny yet striking fusion of contrasting garments; her signature style.

The barefoot models shuffled Walla’s art down the mist wrapped ramp as they recreated a Scandinavian spring dawn. Walla’s inspiration of Swedish farming from yesteryear was evident as always. This inspiration came alive through prevalent use of patchwork and layering in the skirts. They offered variety in length and in the dexterity with the aforementioned techniques. The collection was aimed at providing slack attire with simplicity in shades that ever so often encompassed original embroidery depicting roses; exuding Swedish élan.

Wallas’s attention to textile rather than shades gave the collection its spring/summer identity. The use of organdy and voile in soft shades, bordered with French lace, and at times coupled with flashes of silk and knitted garments, fashioned the imagery of the Swedish countryside at dawn. From a buyer’s point of view, the outcome was a collection of vibrant individual pieces that could be paired neatly with a host of outfits as spring 2011 dawns upon us.
