Tiger of Sweden s/s 2011

This particular label has been at the heart of the ever evolving Swedish fashion industry. Deep rooted in a history of apt tailoring that stretches back to well over a century, Tiger of Sweden has managed to etch its dominance in modern Scandinavia and Europe at large. This particular collection featured both the ‘Silver’ and ‘Black’ lines for the men, and pieces from the women’s collection.

The inspiration at large was drawn from artist Walton Ford whose watercolours often tell complex tales as they depict flora and fauna to the unassuming eye. The collection drew inspiration from the wild of his art, particularly noticeable in the women’s snake skin charred pants and the heavily ruffled lightweight cropped jacket resembling the interiors of a passion fruit.

The collection’s ability to display the labels mastery in suit tailoring in unison with knits, gave the men’s collection a casual aura. This characteristic was furthered with notched lapels on both single and double breasted pieces. This is no surprise given the label’s instrumental part in popularizing the suit out of the 9 am to 5 pm slot in recent decades. Suits were the unchallenged bastion of the collection, however, jackets and coats for both sexes found a sizeable slot on the ramp.

Despite opting for minimal art direction on the ramp, the looks on offer, coupled with a groovy playlist, provided a fitting end to the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Stockholm.
