DKNY s/s 2010 NY
Implicit in the name of her label, DKNY, Donna Karan stayed true to the fundamentals of New York fashion, however, with a welcome twist that incorporated glimpses of Parisian style. If one was looking for a boisterous collection, this line would have hardly satisfied. Instead, the compilation was fabricated on a base of chic silhouettes offering garments with a youthful spirit, well grounded in feminine style. Karan’s colour palette was dominated with lustrous shades; bright reds, pinks and an unforgettable turquoise, featured repeatedly in unison with blacks, navy blues, whites and ecru.
Karan, who admitted that she had been playful in her endeavours, incorporated ruffles repeatedly in her DKNY collection. They found their way on to plunging necklines and skirts equally. Particularly noticeable was a beautifully ruffled ecru skirt that flowed on from a loose white blouse, segmented with a black bow belt. Floral print tiered dresses and extended scarf patterns were other cursors to the playful attitude her collection embodied. The ‘New York’ chic in her line was represented in her use of trenches, button downs, narrow trousers and tailored blazers. In terms of accessories, the bastions of her collection were flirtatious silk scarves and matching chokers, which in turn were amplified by the bare necks her plunging necklines allowed.
The show itself lived up to its bill as one of the centrepieces of New York Fashion Week with a host of celebrity attendees and pop art decor. The line itself stayed true to the classics of feminine style whilst cleverly incorporating a flair that is sure to bring flirtatious vivacity to any owner’s closet this coming spring.
