Kristina Ti s/s 2011 Milan

The start of this Kristina Ti’s S/S 2011 show was every bit reminiscent of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. The suspended Christmas lights that bordered the turf catwalk, coupled with a headline tune that had an irresistible joie de vivre about it, left the adults in the room feeling like children in a fantastical dimension. In addition, the collection was no sort of reality check. Victorian ruffled necklines, unstructured pullovers with multicolour strings, hammer sleeved shirts and kimono shouldered jackets are a few examples of the exaggerated, playful spirit that the collection embodied.

Floral prints and references to botany are the lifeline of the collection, in turn evoking images of Bruno Tinucci’s Tuscan floral artwork. The collection celebrates the female body with recurring tones of nude in the blouses, fused with gaping transparencies, naked backs and loose chiffon silhouettes. The swimsuits are timid, lightly touching on the good mannered cuts of the 70’s and staying clear of slipping into a pool of homogeneity. Occasional geometric ruffles effortlessly shave pounds off this buoyant collection.

The artist’s palette was clasped to the light tones of nature, nude and amber at the forefront with nimble employment of azalea. There was no baggage in this collection; the lightness was entrenched in this playful celebration of the female body.
