Rodarte s/s 2011 N.Y.

As always, Rodarte presents amazing collections and season after season, what’s shown on the catwalk always ends up being a huge sensation. And they do all that without loosing the Rodarte feeling, still as new and innovative as they’ve always been and that’s very important when looking into a brand. A detailed go-through of all the spot on 36 outfits, would be a never ending, still beautiful story. Remarkable the shirts, tops and blouses with the cut-out details around the shoulders, the structured skirt, the calf-lenght flowing skirts that split in the middle and let’s not forget the three-layered skirt which was simply amazing. In fact, all the skirts were perfectly made.

More tailoring than ever before and less arty and quirky then we’re used to see from the duo. The Mulleavy sisters skill for design is only improving each season, and you would never have guessed they’re still newbies on the design scene. The earthy tones and shades of the collection would have been more appropriate for fall, but Rodarte just proved that it will go as strong for the spring-time after they decided it would work. Risky in a way, but isn’t that what Rodarte is all about? The inspiration for the collection was found in Kate- and Laura Mulleavy’s childhood backyard in Northern California and after viewing the collection, you can easily see that.

Just as Laura promised that “every shade of brown you can imagine, seventies suburbia, wood paneling gold, off colors like chartreuse-basically a combination of all the things that present the area to us” would be included in the collection.

Nothing like the new Van Cleef & Arpels jewellery collection, could have been more appropriate to embellish this contemporary catwalk. Looks inspired by wood paneling were accessorized by the newest collection of day to evening stackable fine jewelry, Perlée.  Each piece from the collection, crafted beautifully in 18K rose or white gold, showcases the round beaded edge “perlée” that has been a signature characteristic of the house’s high jewelry since the 1920s. Slight, rich in charme and soul, modern yet elegant, exclusive yet universal, Perlée rings are the new symbol of a timeless elegance.
