Victoria Beckham s/s 2011 NY
Victoria Beckham’s style can unquestionably be classified as utmost chic. Her new 2011 Spring/Summer collection is a mix of vibrant sunflower yellows, violets and pale pinks, in combination with classical white, black and grey tones. The style of her dresses ranges from long glamour dresses to sophisticated short dresses that can be worn day and night.
The most attention-grabbing detail of the show would definitely be the draping that is brought to play in many of the dresses. The draping is very loose and expressive, tied either at the front, or hanging of one shoulder in the Greek toga style. Victoria has used very light shimmery fabric for these dresses, so that the way the light falls on the fabric folds makes the movement of the fabric more conspicuous. The short dresses are an arrangement of shift and tunic dresses that have been cut in fascinating ways. The dresses show experimentation of various new styles of cuts.
Diagonal, circular and curved slits have been used in unison with waist and armhole princess darts for these dresses. The cuts are very clean and the dresses exude a sense of femininity and class. The collection also features short bell skirt and floor length empire barrel style dresses, with large exaggerated skirts so that they appear almost like sculptures.
They are reminiscent of the Jackie Kennedy dresses, but a modern version. This may be a way Victoria adds a touch of America to her collection. Whatever may be her inspiration, the collection exemplifies the predilection of a woman who is frequently in the public eye, known as a fashionista and the wife of most famous soccer player.
