Stelios Koudounaris
With his sixth personal collection making headlines at AXDW a few weeks ago, Stelios Koudounaris is definitely one to watch out for.
And his persona is easy to spot. His logo – an artsy take on the Cyprian mouflon – identifies as a traditional ideal with a new day twist. His work reflects the same notion; classic form meets bold European flair. Koudounaris’ work is becoming fast known to preserve classic style while giving it modern day personality. His solid, dark staples are easy to mix and add much desired oomph.
Koudounaris strategically pairs clear cut form with symmetric pleats, folds and twists in all the right places, giving all his collections extreme functionality while sensually accentuating the female form. His clothes are graceful, yet smart. Fluid, yet structured.
In Koudounaris’ own words, “I create for the emancipated, self-confident woman who lives, works and moves in the city. A woman who knows her wills and claims them, a woman who is open-minded and loves avant-garde outfits.”
A student of Fashion Design and Clothes Production Technology, Koudounaris supplemented his passion for creation with a further degree in graphic and interior design. When asked what inspires him, he replies, “Nothing and everything. I suppose… from the greatest things in a man’s life to the most insignificant. But anyway, I am mostly inspired by people and their aura. My most brilliant ideas are born while walking in the streets, in the metro, basically everywhere in the urban landscape…”
His latest line – Le Prostitute Medievali – conforms with his acclaimed style. His bolder pieces from this collection stand out with an almost architectural precision. What catches the eye immediately, though, are his easy, sexy dresses, perfect for any night out in all their simplicity.
Classic form with new age style. Koudounaris has it down to perfection.
