Cosimo Buccolieri
While going through a photographer’s portfolio, you’ll often find that one picture that makes you stop and marvel at their talent and artistry. I was determined to find that one picture in Cosimo Buccolieri’s portfolio as a starting point for this article, but was highly disappointed. His work does not have one special photo that takes your breath away. Quite the contrary; his entire portfolio leaves you awestruck!
Cosimo Buccolieri’s work makes you wish he would point his lens in your direction at least once in your lifetime. His pictures portray their subject with such magnificence that you can’t help but wish that it was you being photographed instead of the model in the frame. Each picture is bold and beautiful.
When asked about his work, Buccolieri tells Design42Day, “My work is oneiric, surreal, mysterious and metaphysical. I always try to see reality from these points of view, creating an imaginary world where laws of nature and physics don’t always count. “
The portfolio is a great jumble of varied form. Every fantasy comes alive. His pictures are full of creativity and very fun. His Elizabethan shots are utmost magic! There is an honest depiction of the Joker from the Dark Knight on a beautiful female model, a sensual Adam&Eve and even a modern fantasy creature in graceful contemplation on a placid beach. His singular vampire shot is as sexy as Eric from True Blood. My personal favourite was a gorgeous damsel kissing a robed, hooded stranger, which brings to mind the Kiss of Death from a Dementor in Harry Potter. His photos bring your favourite characters from pop culture to life! And his ideas and depiction are greatly inspired and captured marvellously.
Then there is Buccolieri’s 2009 Year of Rugby calendar. The rugged, chiselled male form has never looked better, almost as if Greek Gods have taken to playing the sport.
It’s clear that Buccolieri has immense talent. His play with light in each picture is spectacular. Shadows create mystery that bring out the best in his subjects, playing on their beauty and intrigue. It is also commendable that he constructs all of his pictures from scratch. “I tend to construct my pictures in all its fragments, from sets, to lighting… facial expressions to hand movements; nothing is left to chance.”
Buccolieri’s work truly is brilliant.
“I think that all subjects have a story to tell, the important thing is to see it and capture it in the shot.” – Cosimo Buccolieri
