Gareth Pugh F/W 2011 Paris

After last season’s artsy movie presentation, Gareth Pugh returns to a runway full of shimmering lights. The designer remains very faithful to his love for the gothic black and asymmetrically molded coats. His futuristic collection is trying to break the boundaries in between art and wearability.

Very well cut, refined shapes, the signature elements of Pugh’s outfits are, this time, combined with a touch of fluidity.
He plays, perfectly, with rubber and leather as if they were the easiest fabrics to tame.

The surprise of the show was color, and not any kind, a mind-blowing cobalt blue and sparkling gold. Very long dresses that touched the floor or tight, shinny pants, no matter what the designer had in mind, he was definitely creating for a powerful, alien-type of woman; something out of this world, but much desired by humankind.

Silhouettes do vary a lot but we can find some common ground in the hourglass shape dresses and trapeze coats. Leather is not anymore an element by itself, covered in sequin it is transformed in a whole different texture and powerful new visual statement.
For the final touch of this modern armor the designer chooses: platform black leather boots of different heights, black leather gloves that seem never to end and some gold neck cuffs.
Gareth, always offers us something more than we expect from him, without damaging one bit his view on aesthetics. Always modern, elegant, he aims for a flawless, sleek collection that critics cannot question, no matter personal tastes.
