Arturo Elena
Arturo Elena began working in the 80’s, designing women’s collections in Barcelona for the brands Bambú and Daniel G.
He taught Trends at the Fashion Design and Techniques Schools in Seville and Malaga.
He has worked on visual identity projects with Victorio & Lucchino for six years.
Loewe, Chanel Spain, Roberto Verino, Lemoniez, L’Oreal Paris, Carrera y Carrera and Custo Barcelona are just a few of the Spanish fashion firms to which Elena has contributed.
His illustrations have appeared in publications such as Telva, Elle, Mujer Hoy, Yo Dona, Maxima (Portugal), Angelines (France), Snitt (Norway), K9 (Ukraine), Vision (China) or X-funs and DPI (Taiwan). From 1992 till 2009, he made monthly contributions to Cosmopolitan Spain.
Since 1998, he has been working on a full-time basis with the European Design Institute (Madrid and Barcelona), where he has staged retrospective exhibitions of his works in 2001 (Madrid) and 2006 (Barcelona).
In 2003 he also took part in the collective exhibitions “Paper Chic” at Circulo de Bellas Artes in Madrid, and “Behind the Mirror”, a collective exhibition centred on Spanish fashion at Queen Sofia Modern Art Museum in Madrid.
In 2001 the Spanish Ministry of Culture adquired him 15 fashion illustrations as fonds for the National Museum “Museo del Traje”.
The 4th edition of the ARI (Spanish Association of Information Magazines) Awards distinguished him with the Illustrator of the Year Prize in 2002, and in 2006 he was awarded for his extensive professional experience with the prestigious Vendor Prize (Club of Marketing of Aragon).
Recently, from October 2009 to January 2010, the Museo del Traje CIPE (Museum of Costumes) in Madrid hosted a retrospective exhibition of 52 works of the artist, called: “Arturo Elena, 25 years of fashion illustration”
