Luca Nichetto
Luca Nichetto, just 34 years old and has already signed more than 80 projects in 10 years of business. He is considered one of the most talented Italian designer worldwide. He emerges as the protagonist during the Stockholm Design Week 2011 with the exhibition “Synapsis, Stockholm Venice meets” where he plays between (his) two cultures of design: Italian and Swedish. We talk with Luca to know him, to understand his works and what we should expect from him during the next Salone del Mobile 2011.
• What could be a question about your work that you’ve always wanted to answer to and nobody has ever asked you:
What Italian Institutions are doing to stimulate and help the design? Here’s the question that I’d like to answer to … But unfortunately, it’s just “the question” that you want from me, right?
• You have a brilliant career, you are are talented, and you have passion: what is the most important thing to succeed in this job?
I think all of them are very important: the talent is the first skill but isn’t all, a good luck is always something that everybody needs to meet. The passion its crucial, but the real “must have” is to have a big will. Without the last one, is really impossible to have the good results.
• How did you learn to design?
You always need to be curious, but overall it’s important to study the process of different productions and many materials.
• Do you think there is a fashion content in design?
For sure there is, but I hope it won’t be this way in the future. Because a good idea could be perfect for something but if that idea began a “fashion-style” after the first, we can see many objects that start to be similar. This is dangerous for a good level of creativity.
• Luca as how do you see Nichetto in 5 years time?
I hope to see Nichetto with bigger projects but less in numbers, and I suppose that I will see that – on 90% – out of Italy.
• During next Salone del Mobile, we know that you will show us a light made by Foscarini, another by Established & Sons, works byTacchini, something by Mabeo Forniture and last but not least something new by King’s company…Please tell us more details
There are so many projects at the next Salone in 2011 (details at the bottom). During the week of design you can see them on display at the Temporary Museum for New Design, Superstudio Piu, Via Tortona 27, on Fiera Milano- Rho, on Versace Theatre and also something on “DESIGN SUPERMARKET” La Rinascente store.
The first area is open, while other areas will be confidential and accessible only with pass. On April 13, there will be the inauguration of the space “Horizon” where they will be previewed several projects and prototypes of various designers, all of which will go into production in 2012-13.
Here it will be submitted the project for Italesse: Fresnel collection of stemware and glasses is distinguished by its three-dimensional decorative surface, which Is derived from the Fresnel lens characterized by concentric annular sections designed for use in llghthouses as a means of radiating light to assist with more ships’ navigation.
Among the new projects there are two I have absolute embargo for pictures and details until April 12: two lamps that I care for Foscarini and for Established & Sons.
Then we present the first project developed entirely in the new studio in Stockholm: “Wolfgang chair for Fornasarig. This is a line of chairs that comes either in plain wood, which is partially or entirely varnished and whose range of colours is derived from mural paintings, or padded. The design of a version of Wolfgang designed for professional use is also in progress.
Of course, we also bring the final projects presented in Sweden in February as: Timeline for the collection Skultuna or IPE for Mabe. Then again TAFFY for Gallotti & Radice: Taffy is the English translation of the French term moiré, which denotes a unique graphic effect generated through the interference created by the superimposition of two groups of lines, sometimes curved, sometimes not.
Will be presented the project for PROSCIUTTERIA KING’S : this corporate image includes the design of the brand’s logo as well as the tools and clothing with which the company’s sales representatives are equipped, including aprons, hats and a line of utensils (a ham clamp, a carving knife and tongs). The entire project will be hosted inside the King’s Design House, an exhibition area dedicated to the tools and clothing and a lounge area for the tasting of the Prosciutteria King’s products.
The colour choice of this venue is based on soft natural colours, like ivory and and grey, reminding of the preciousness of silk and quoting the luxurious venetian Saloni. Guests will have the possibility to taste high-quality cold cuts in an environment furnished with chairs by Casamania, Emmegi, Fornasarig, Kristalia, Skitsch, objects by Bosa, Gallotti & Radice, Italesse, Mabeo Furniture, Moroso, Ogeborg, Skultuna and lights thanks to the collaboration of Established & Sons e Foscarini.
