Twister

Not only a top attraction for gourmet people, but also a feast for the eyes, the Twister restaurant in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, has taken the world of design by storm… Largely praised by architecture and design critiques all over Europe, the ‘new kid on the block’ has a lot more to offer to its clients than just a mouth-watering menu with exquisite molecular style dishes. Designers Sergey Makhno and Vasily Butenko transformed a two-storey unconventional location into a fabulously luxurious dining place that will leave even the most skeptical client mesmerized.

The design team, already widely acclaimed for past projects that included residential and commercial interiors and architecture, definitely hit a hot spot with their last assignment: a five-star restaurant and bar in the ex-soviet capital. Their magnificent concept is based on a fusion of elements inspired by nature, all melded into a rather surrealist setting.

The two-storey dining area is ingenuously delimited by furnishings that appear to be meandering above the ground-level tables, with the pillars supporting them designed so as to resemble the funnel of tornados. The space features six such balconies, separating five intimate dining cells, inspired by birds’ nests. To complete the decor, some pieces of furniture were elaborated in order to recreate cones and pods, and the walls were covered in wooden slats. The finishing touch is given by drop-shaped light fixtures.

The bar area compliments the dining space perfectly, by further keeping to the birds’ nest idea. All seats are inspired by coniferous fruit, while the walls are covered in twigs. Tiny lamps, hidden among the thousands of wooden sticks, dimly light up the space.

The warm atmosphere of the restaurant is given by the use of nuances of beige, ochre, garnet and brown and the diffuse glow of the dainty lights. These complement each other perfectly, having as a result a relaxing, pleasant ambiance.

For all those with an appetite for exuberant cuisine and drinks, or a sheer passion for design, Twister is definitely a place worth trying. Allow yourself to be seduced by the grandeur of this high-class, unconventional restaurant!
