The Principles of Essentialism
Presented this year at Salone Satellite in Milan, the collection “The Principle of Essentialism” is capable of taking the idea of essentiality to its true meaning with its forms, colors and materials, but, preserving originality and glamour.
Designed by Ilia Potemine, principal of the New York-based studio BeplusHave, the collection is made of three pieces based on the concept of contrast, masterly interpreted by the designer. In “Armless”, an armchair with a wide confortable seat, this sensation is created with the combined use of rough wood and fiberglass and with the choice of a rounded shape for the legs, opposing to the squared traits of the seat.
This happens also in the “Pixel Table”, a table with a surface composed by little squares recalling pixels, where we can see the same juxtaposition between the squared deck and the rounded legs. The third product of the collection is named Arq, a floor lamp, in which the concept of contrast is interpreted by combining the solidity of the wood base with the slimness of the pvc arm and of the light bulb. The first edition of the collection comes in a very limited quantity, it is handmade by the artist, that wanted to preserve the artisanal nature of the product, by individual signing each piece and adding a serial number.
