Vesselina Pentcheva

Vesselina Pentcheva portrays a woman which is international and modern, but also feminine, sensual and dramatic.

It is exactly the complexity of woman’s nature, with its strength and fragility that is captured in each of her creations, which are full of exquisite details, handmade embroidery, sumptuous fabrics and shaded colors.

The designer native of the Bulgarian town of Ruse, moved to South Africa in 1993 to study at the Gordon Flack Davidson Academy of Design where she graduated as a top student.

Today she lives in the lively town of Johannesburg, where she owns her Design studio since the year 2000 and where she creates both sophisticated bridal dresses, for which she’s internationally recognized, and elegant evening outfits.

Pentcheva represents one of the main actors at the Audi Fashion week and Arise Africa Fashion Week, presenting each season a collection of unique pieces inspired by different multicultural identities. In the spring summer 2011 collection she travelled to the colorful Mexico of Frida Khalo , bringing on the catwalk sumptuous dresses , with layered gowns and embroidered  corsets ,and voile combinations, presented in the signature colors of white, black and a light blue-grey . In 2010 instead, she went back to the fifties to portray dresses with romantic tailoring, with emphasis on shoulders and waistlines, with a richness of details, and unexpected combinations of fabrics, from silk chiffon to organza, and especially lace for a sexy but retro look.

For sure each of her creations make a bold statement and are far from minimalistic, to communicate constantly her personal motto of “less is not more”, in fact “more is more”.
