The Hug Chair by Gabriella Asztalos

Searching for furniture can be as challenging as setting up a new home. Designers are always looking for new and innovating ideas, but combining design and comfort is tricky. Gabriella Asztalos had the perfect example of a simple idea turned into something really creative and new. The Budapest born designer won this year’s ICFF Design Award with a piece of furniture that is really interesting and original.

She created the “Hug Chair”, it’s a spiral made of wood and covered with cloth, the chair is circled and provides a unique experience, combining the key items of a hug. Since the structure force the two people to sit face to face, it creates an immediate intimacy and connection.  Your focus is always on the other person, exactly what a hug is all about. The exceptional shape and the acoustics of the Hug Chair creates, even in large and crowded rooms or halls, safe and intimate ambience for those who desire space for a private moment. It’s not only comfortable but it’s also a chance of interaction, key items to the very definition of the word “design”.
