Winnipeg Skating Shelters
Cold to death is not always so bad when it ends up with something like that, is not it?
Patkau Architects from Canada has designed shelters for providing a lively, warm back to the ice-skaters of Winnipeg. Only few people can be welcomed by per shelter.
Those shelters, formed by modular, thin layers of flexible plywood, are shaped on purpose by the placement of three shelter in a 120 degree rotation. This special placement provides a protected environment from the cold and wind for the skin of the interior space.
As the shapes of the shelters, the holes of the inner structure are not a coincidence, they are drilled to release the pressure inside. The experiments were done first with the prototype so to calculate the pressure.
Now, it is more available and convenient in Winnipeg for ice-skating lovers both to enjoy and be safe in the harsh winter conditions.
