Alexandre Vauthier haute couture AW 2011 Paris

Paris has been set ablaze since Alexandre Vauthier’s latest haute couture show, a poetically sensual Inferno.
Vauthier’s inflamed passion for lipstick did not lay quietly amongst the elegant beauty cases or timeless hand bags of chic Parisian women: he smeared and smudged the bold, vibrant hues into their dresses and thoughts.
The twenty-nine looks that were presented in various tones of red, from burgundy to crimson to scarlet, seemed to be an unspoken homage to Valentino, the “original” lover of carnal reds -and a touchstone for sensual, dauntless women.
The high and wide shoulders in combination with the architectural cuts and shapes without doubt reflect Vauthier’s influence from his Thierry Mugler days.
The first outfit constituted of a bright red fur coat wrapped in a flirty bustier giving an hourglass figure to the look. The following form-fitting pieces were each intrinsically structured and elaborated, evolving from tight cigarette pants to little short dresses and back to plunging necklines.
As the collection moves forwards, we see the looks become more liquid – like melted lipstick under the sun. The dresses and the details become more seductively flowing and luscious, assuming undertones of 70’s inspired themes.
The pinnacle of the collection was the last look, the thirtieth, a beautiful cream, sheer, floor length gown with exaggerated shoulders and carefully embellished Swarowski elements cascading both in the front and the back.
As if this collection weren’t “hot” enough, it was topped with red lipstick, ruby and red jewelery, Alexandre Vauthier clutches, and the unmistakable classic red Louboutin.
Très chic.
