Passenger Terminal Building
The new hype for harmony between architecture and landscape seemingly creates innovative, unique ideas in designer’s minds. A Passenger Terminal Building, meant to facilitate the crossing of the Shenzhen River thereby bringing Hong Kong closer to the booming and vibrant Special Economic Zone, asked for such contribution of ideas in form of a public competition.
EDIT! Architecture is one of the contributors in an imagery sense since they were not able to participate in the competition. Their proposal though is worth examining in detail: the mix of geometrical forms and shapes combines to a dynamic and smooth façade. Brightness and transparency are dominant features, which allow for plenty incidence of light and even for visual contact between different levels. EDIT! Architecture focuses on the implementation of functionality required for such terminal. This is reflected for example by movable façade panels enabling stronger air circulation.
The building encompasses arrival and departure halls, offices and service rooms. From an aerial perspective, the building blends into the landscape appearing like a city park due to its green roof, while the façade gives a rather futuristic impression with its panels reflecting a color scale from white to grey to black. Also the interior is kept bright, with columns and shiny marble-like floors. The dominating broken white is complemented by different shades of grey.
Currently the winners are being voted on by the public (unfortunately EDIT! Architecture will not be an option).
