Carolina Sepulveda

Last week’s global hot spot was none other than Medellin, the second largest city in Colombia. The city was host to the Colombian Fashion week 2011 and it gathered fashion lovers from all over the world. For a few days, all Colombian beauties left the exotic bathing suits and vibrant rhythms of the beach behind, in favor of the grandeur of the runways. Top designers along with the most promising youngsters in the field provided the audience with an unforgettable show. Carolina Sepulveda caught our attention during her showcase on July 27th.

Carolina is currently one of the most acclaimed young fashion designers in whole Latin America. Winning the “Fucsia” contest for aspiring designers, she was granted a showcase during the fashion week, on the Fucsia Runway. As she modestly states, she believes this to be her highest achievement so far in the world of fashion. However, Carolina is not a stranger to the industry; after graduating from Colombia’s most prestigious university, with a degree in design, she pursued further training at IED, in Barcelona. Here, she took a Cool Hunting course. After that, she chose to take up some other courses in Paris, in order to grasp the vibe of the city of lights, and draw inspiration from it. Obviously, her international education offered her a global perspective, both from an artistic point of view, and also from a more business-oriented one. During all these years, she worked astutely and acquired invaluable experiences. The highlights of her career so far would cover both winning numerous national and international contests, such as “Atelier”, and also working for important companies, such as “Inexmoda” in Colombia and several others abroad, including jobs in Italy and New York. With a fairly impressive agenda of personal achievements, Caroline Sepulveda is obviously a talented and determined artist. However, it is not her top-notch CV that left us jaw-dropping, but rather her beautiful collection we witnessed a few days ago!

Through her collection, the designer proposes an ethereal muse clothed with the finest, most delicate and light fabrics. Her line was almost entirely based on plain white pieces, with a few subtle touches of pastel colors in blue and yellow. The nuances complemented perfectly the fabrics, and only added to the feeling of delicacy. The flowing silhouettes were a statement of candor. The designer toyed mostly with big chunks of fabric and created loose-fitting, airy items. However, despite this and perhaps due to the fabrics, the clothes gently moved at the same pace with the models, enhancing their sublime figures. The concept behind the collection is based on all things simple and pure; the collection explores the beauty to be found in simple designs and in the light colors. A woman does not need to bother with patterns and crazy prints, layering and funky pieces of jewelry all the time, because sometimes, a simple, impeccably cut maxi-dress will just do the trick! Caroline’s collection is all about summer and the tingling, relaxing feeling a summer breeze gives us, it’s about the alluring seaside and the gentle movement of the waves. All items the designer created were shaped bearing this in mind. Long, carefree dresses, oversized harem pants, see-through funky boyfriend shirts, puffy mini skirts and relaxing tees… This is how Caroline Sepulveda envisions summer’s coolest outfits.

With just a dash of color and well-chosen textures, the young designer put together a marvelous, consistent collection. Almost frugal, the designs were astoundingly simple, yet so beautiful. We loved her laid-back, zen approach to fashion! Nice work!
