A Bird of II Feathers by Mimi Pong
Ms. Mimi and Mr. Pong are a design duo under the collective title, Mimipong. Mimipong is about the unexpected and the quirky. Mimi comes from two generations of textile retailers and her influences originate largely from her childhood growing up around bales of fabrics.
Her approach in design however comes from her experience as an Art Director in design and advertising. Mimipong philosophy is also based on the desire that each item thought handmade is researched upon, produced, packaged and finished with quality.
One of the duo’s latest projects is called “A Bird of II Feathers”, which is pattern cut and constructed by fashion and costume designer Hirochika Kameyama in Japan and finally put together by a skilled tailor. The result is a reversible bag made my bleached heavy cotton and grey canvas with embroidered details. The fact that is reversible permits to the bag to change with you, your craze and your humor.
“Elegant or beguiling, you decide what your bag says about you,” reads the accessory’s tagline. It’s surprising and droll, like many of Mimipong’s previous creations. We cannot wait to see what’s next, but for now do you feel more like a swan or like a cygnet?
