On The Corner by EASTERN
Located in a manufacturing area in Youkaichi City in Shiga Prefecture, close to Kyoto in Japan, “On The Corner” is an apartment block with an unusual sharp triangular shape and a blue façade, which has been created by the Japanese architect studio EASTERN Design Office, famous for realizing unconventional structures.
The building recalls the tip of a boat and it is intentionally in contrast with the rest of the surrounding architecture in order to give a clear statement, the illusion that a piece of town with its modern lines is escaped from it to find a place here. But it is also a perfect synthesis of the new nature of the area: the triangular, modern and acute form totally fits with an industrial, residential area, and now also a vibrant nightlife meeting point in which different cultures live together. The external part of the construction is made by an interplay of square cut stones, concrete, and glass.
The four floors are composed by two apartments for each floor, exception made for the fourth one, in which we find just one. Each flat is composed of a living room, two bedrooms, a prefabricated bathroom, a kitchen system and a toilet.
