The Beehive Chair by Graham Roebeck

Beehive chair is designed by Graham Roebeck, a New Zealand based architectural designer that managed to win the 2011 Formica Formations Competition. The contest, at its first edition, aimed to encourage both experienced and emerging designers to match their design talents against 10 of the world’s best architects, such as Zaha Hadid, Massimo Vignelli and Peter Eisenman.
The Beehive chair is solid and uses interesting raw materials. It is, in fact, made of Lakepine Zero low emitting MDF and polished in beeswax to the edges, while Warm White Formica high pressure laminate envelopes the vertical faces of the piece. The inspiration comes from the shape of the guitar pick and by the bee’s wax patterns with the intent of exploring the theme of highly portable art and media by using the analogy of sculpture as frozen music. White and beige colors, simple and stunning lines create an amazing blend, aesthetically pleasing but with an unusual look.
