Etienne Deroeux

French-born designer Etienne Deroeux, starts his career in the fashion system just after finishing high school. At first as intern in Paris and then through his experiences around the globe, including Australia and New York. But it is on his own land that he studied fashion, precisely in Antwerp and in Brussels. After realizing that the only way to feel free to express himself and to create is to establish his own brand, in April 2011 he launches the label ‘Etienne Deroeux’.

His first s/s collection, SAISON UN, was presented at Paris fashion week and is composed by elegant, perfect-finish, and innovative cuts garments, but most importantly they are made with quality and rare materials. It can be said that his approach to fashion is quite intellectual, in fact the inspiration behind this collection comes from a book written by Jean-Paul Sartre called ‘L’être et le Neant’, but also from one of Egglestone’s work and an elementary school geometry book. So many inspirational sources to create clothes that can be worn either in a classy or in a more casual way. Cloths that are created to suit the body and to adapt to different kind of styles, to bend to the personality of the body they dress up.

Deroeux’s rule base are: 100% pure natural fabrics (he dislikes synthetic or plastic-derived materials) and select the most valuable textures. The pieces are produced exclusively in France and in limited copies with each garment hand-numbered from 1 to 100 ensuring authenticity, rarity and exclusivity to each piece.

Enjoying his first collection one cannot help but wonder how will be his next work. Deroeux gave some clues saying he will focus on developing exclusive knits for the winter collection and he will start working on a shoe line. Cool!
