Kimberly Ovitz
After being awarded the “Emerging Designer of the Year Award“ in 2010 and having been to the White House as one of the “150 young entrepreneurs”, Kimberly Ovitz is back with a stunning S/S 2012 Collection.
This season again; the 28-year-old Californian-raised designer sticks to her “less is more” philosophy. She has created very flowy pieces in her signature quality fabrics and neutral tones. Grace, minimalism, and clean cuts are all represented in her latest womenswear collection. Every creation is centered on Kimberly’s equestrian-driven mind, which is also portrayed in the company logo: two intertwined riding crops. “I imagine my dresses on a woman riding sidesaddle and bareback” as she says herself. However, her collection is far from what can be imagined as very Ralf Lauren-esque, and in W.Magazine’s words, is described as a more “grungy equestrian-inspired line”.
One can undoubtedly associate Kimberly’s work to her childhood and fashion driven path. Since age 14, she has interned everywhere, from J.Crew to Chanel; working alongside icons such as Karl Lagerfeld and J.Crew cofounder, Emily Scott who she describes as her “mentor”. After attending Parson School of Design summer course at 17 and graduating from Brown University in Art History/Business in 2005, she finally launches her own collection in 2009.
Although she is the daughter of a Hollywood mogul, and has designer the Lindsay Lohan court dress, which must not be easy to live with everyday; Kimberly has successfully managed to make a name for herself . Kimberly Ovitz is the brand behind the 2009 most-craved-for Jacob dress, and Marie Claire has recently described her as the “next Donna Karan”.
