Antonio Berardi AW 2012

In the past, we had the opportunity to watch his fashion shows in Milan, but currently this British fashion designer of Italian descent shows his collections at London fashion week. Judging by what has been seen, his new AW collection is sumptuous in color, texture and form.  Berardi’s inspiration were drawn from the Roccoco interiors he saw in an edition of Italian Vogue, as well as the porcelain sculpture of the contemporary artist Rachel Kneebone.

The designer surprised us with looks that were different from his usual signature pieces – dresses that fit like a glove and embrace the curves. This collection abounded in origami frocks, peplum dresses and skirts, pleated skirts, angular blazers and jackets. In the first part of the fashion show, models had more masculine looks wearing suits and mentioned sharp tailored blazers. These outfits would have looked more stern and futuristic, if there wasn’t that particular choice of colors: bright tomato red robe and contrasting grey blazer or bold teal and gold garments. As models started walking in black and white ensembles, combinations were looking more and more elegant and somewhat similar to the Bernardi creations we usually see on the red carpet. There were the traces of this brand’s recognizable hourglass dresses. The detailing on black robes is so precisely done and makes them look exquisite.

When it comes to texture, sequin covered fabric, fur and some leather make a special contribution. Furry coats, headed by two-tone one accessorized with teal sandals, give that touch of extra luxury over all.

Antonio Berardi  is best known for his figure-hugging dresses that emphasize sensuality and sexuality of a woman. His main influences are female form, lingerie, Italian art and culture (we can feel his Italian heritage) and urban street style. As a result of this, his body-conscious clothing is in great demand among women who embrace their curves and feel more confident – like a real woman.
