Doo-Ri AW 2012
It is certain that Diane Von Furstenberg knows how to wrap around different garments, but when it comes to draping, the designer to be focused on is definitely Doo-Ri Chung. Being best known for her draped jersey dresses, no wonder the Korean-American designer is often called ‘’draping whiz’’.
At this year’s New York Fashion week, Chung confirmed that one of the best ways to emphasize the whole figure or just some part of woman’s body is to crease the material in special places. Models presented 31 looks and there was something for everyone – loose draped stretchy dresses and tight draped blouses, laser cut pieces, leather pants and coat with leather sleeves. Knits were combined with carefully chosen pieces such as jersey capris or draped skirts, so that the result would be more elegant look.
From the very first creation until the last, it can be concluded that the whole collection is a story of woman being all romantic in white and pale pink garments transformed into more serious looking person. With a few stern looks with which this fashion show ended, Chung left her comfort zone and maybe experimented with some materials. Most of the pieces were made with high necks so the whole silhouette is elongated and it’s a good solution for women who want to look thinner.
The essential part of almost every Chung’s piece is the unique drape. It is so accurately done that the balance of silhouette isn’t upset. The designer is recognized for creating dresses made of her signature fabric jersey. Even First Lady Michelle Obama appreciated her work by wearing one of her gowns on last year’s formal dinner honoring South Korean President Lee Myung-bak.
