Marchesa AW 2012

Throughout the years, Marchesa has become synonym for elegance, luxury and creations that remind us of the princesses in fairy tales. No wonder Marchesa gowns are often the first choice for celebrities when attending red carpets or other high profile events. Fall 2012 collection is inspired by the 1878 painting ‘’A soul brought to heaven’’ by artist William-Adolphe Bouguereau.

On the runway, models have gracefully showed pieces such as ball gowns and swaying cocktail dresses. Marchesa’s trademark lace and other transparent materials were highly represented. These sheer effects always bring large dose of romance. Designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig decided that the majority of dresses would be nude, cream and white, but there were also gorgeous red gowns, a black leather dress and two metallic gold pieces – a crinoline ball gown and a long dress fitting tightly to the body with a wrinkled hip moment. These few unusual creations broke up the monotony of pastel colored robes.

The first association when you see a few white translucent dresses covered in white feathers is heaven. These fluffy, charming dresses would make anyone wearing them feel like walking on bed of clouds. When you look the collection as a whole, it is quite understandable why the inspiration was Bouguereau’s painting, which portrays a young woman (actually her soul) entering the heaven carried by two angels.

The two Marchesa designers, Chapman and Craig, made it clear with this Fall 2012 collection that Marchesa gowns will stay the important part of someone’s red carpet look. Whoever wears these outstanding pieces has to be prepared for shine of spotlight on oneself.
