ANIMAL : The Other Side Of Evolution

One cannot simply conceal talent, and London based fashion artist, Ana Rajcevic, is certainly a proof of it. Not only does she not hide her skills, but she actually displays her work proudly, so that the rest of us can enjoy it.

“ANIMAL : The Other Side Of Evolution“ is the name of her latest sculptural headpiece collection for which she won the MA Design Award from University of the Arts London earlier this year. The collection consists of unique, provocative and intriguing pieces that, similar to masks, may have a dual purpose. They can be displayed on human body or shown separately in some gallery, as they were part of the exhibition at Victoria House in London.

These 8 works of art are located somewhere between reality and fantasy, representing the designer’s vision of how evolution might look like. Taking inspiration from animal anatomy, the skeleton structures delete the existing boundaries of headwear design and create the vision of supernatural being resulted from, at least, the evolution of ideas. Various parts of animal’s skulls maybe look rough for an amateur eye, but in reality they are perfectly established with the human face, so the whole idea is ingenious. The pieces were handcrafted and materials used are fiberglass, polyester resin, gel coat and silicone rubber.

Ana Rajcevic has finished MA Fashion Artefact, London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London in 2012. She released her debut fashion collection Unhuman in 2009 and then ensued her first sculpture exhibition named Wired. Her talent was branched out to the area of film with her co-produced fashion film Encounters, screened at Berlin Fashion Week 2010 and Rotterdam International Film Festival 2011.
