D.Efect FW 2012
During Riga Fashion Week, besides local Latvian designers, some other foreign brands took part in showcasing their designs. One of them was the Lithuanian brand D.Efect, which is headed by its designer Egle Ziemyte. While the collection was being created, Ziemyte had in mind that the D.Efect woman was imperfectly perfect and, in a way, mysterious. With innovative and unique aesthetics, this fashion show reminded us of some of the brand’s key concepts.
This autumn collection is, of course, rich in coats, usually oversized. Bold bright colors, like blue and orange, are skillfully contrasted with white, grey and black. The most interesting details are the ones made of leather: sleeves and large unconventional pockets on coats and jackets. However, when it comes to the sleeves, what is more interesting is that they are rolled up to the elbows for the majority of the looks, revealing shirts with zippers. While the models were replacing one another on the catwalk, there were more and more of such delightful surprises. The designer remained true to her distinctive and recognizable idea that coats can easily be worn instead of dresses. This is a very smart and innovative move, and surely an example of how the top layer becomes the only one.
The most provocative piece is the black transparent blouse, which, even though it has masculine cut, is definitely distinguished among other garments. There weren’t many accessories, but they still played an important role: caps and ankle boots were this time sufficient enough to adorn the collection without weighing it down with excessive decors.
D.Efect was created in 2009 and the clothes are produced in Lithuania, insisting on natural materials like virgin wool, silk, cotton, cashmere etc. Collections usually consist of outerwear (coats, trench-coats, jackets), and garments that can be worn instead of dresses or shirts. And, as their main concept says – you never know whether it’s dress or nude body under an overcoat!
