Maria Bekh FW 2012

BEKh’s fashion for the next winter has a unique statement: Nobilty is an attitude.

On the catwalk or Mercedes Benz Kiev Fashion Days, the Ukranian brand presented a collection with a strong character and a clear mind, that draws its inspiration from the Smolny uniforms, an educational institute for noble maidens where in the XIX century young girls from elite families were sent to get a strict education and learn behavior, good manners, knowledge, discipline and morality in order to become part of the avant-garde future class of intellectuals.

Noblesse oblige, and this collection is no exception: white collars, severe low-cuts, clean lines and long sleeves, declined on a color palette ranging from black, burgundy-brown, and coffee color to lighter shades  and finally white for the final senior year, in accordance with the classification of school dresses.

The mood of the collection also grows along with the character of the young Smolny girl – from the playful image of the childhood to the sophistication and romanticism of a beautiful young lady wearing classic wool fabrics and denim, jersey and silk, playful lining and strict facing.

Nobility and bourgeoisie in the modern world designed by Maria Bekh are no longer a prerogative, but a modern attitude and a free metropolitan choice of life and style, the result and the ironic counter reaction of a bohemian and free mind to decades of class struggle and limitations, proving once again the great manipulating power of creativity and fashion.
