Paskal FW 2012

Little Red Riding Hood, also known as Little Red Cap, is a European fairy tale about a young girl meeting a big wolf in the forest. The story has been changed considerably in its history and subject to numerous modern adaptations and readings. What happens when the story is tainted with dark, Little Red is wearing modern apparel and the forest is a genuinely Ukrainian one? I had the chance to ask Julia Paskal, after her astonishing fashion show during Mercedes Benz Kiev Fashion Days.

Paskal fashion for the next winter is an all night spent in the wood. A black, magic environment for this modern and romantic heroine to achieve confidence and mystery. Through contamination with this mystical surrounding, the woman, her clothing and appearance, are subject to metamorphosis and combinations: the black cape leaves space to foliage-made garments, and laser cuts begin to appear on dark and grey shapes. Graphite cashmere, coal-black cotton, organza, woolen yarn and whipcord fabric to protect the tenderness of this spirit that is merging with nature.

The final metamorphosis leads Paskal woman to become a solitary and nocturnal owl, wearing apparel as second skin and feathers – a living icon of wisdom and mystery.
