Sarmite Ostanevica FW 2012

Ostanevica’s AW 2012 collection called ’’Automatic’’ draws its inspiration from the field of mechanics and machines. It was showcased during latest Riga Fashion Week amongst other innovative and exciting fashion shows.

The first thing you’ll probably notice is the form of each piece. This collection abounded in geometric shapes and asymmetric tailoring. Some strict silhouettes are adorned with original detailing, which is the designer’s signature move. Sheer blouses with patent bands and striking 3D detailing leave little to the imagination. What is also interesting is that when someone first thinks of long sleeved dress made of tweed, it is usually characterized as something that has been seen too many times. But in this case, cuts on gray tweed dress transform it into something that can easily be worn at night. Also, side cuts on black pants make the whole look even more vampish.

Apart from gunmetal and bronze, color palette is somehow soothing. But, on the other hand, the tailoring and details are more dramatic part of collection and you can’t just glance at it. Each offered combination is very elegant, whether it is a brown jumpsuit or bold dress with uneven sides. Accessories weren’t necessary, because pieces alone are impressive enough.

Sarmite Ostanevica is London-based designer whose collections are produced and sold in Latvia. She studied at Kensington and Chelsea College and took courses at St Martin’s College of Fashion. Her first collection named ’’Feminine army’’ was shown at Riga Fashion Week 2010.
