Araisara FW 2012
This year, Japan Fashion Week ended in serenity and beauty as the Araisara show peacefully closed the week. The brand didn’t only wave goodbye to Japan Fashion Week, but also to the Japanese fashion scene as a whole, as it is moving its shows to Paris starting from S/S 2013. The farewell show was rhythmed with live flute and piano played from the catwalk, which enhanced the serene atmosphere the collection portrayed to the audience. Through flowing dresses, elegant lines, a few transparent silhouettes, soft fabrics such as silk and jersey, and neutral colours, the designer, Arai, perfectly portrayed the show’s soft and calm vibes in her F/W 12 collection.
The brand, which was founded in 2008 by the Japanese designer Arai, manages to successfully combine its oriental origins with the modernity of today’s fashion. From the Japanese traditional prints to the numerous garments which are structured similarly to kimonos, one can notice that Japan clearly is an important inspiration throughout the collection. Although the brand is moving to Paris next Spring, Arai is surely not ready to dismiss her origins which are such an important part of her work.
