BMW i8 Concept Spyder

BMW is the pioneer in both technology and design. The BMW i8 Spyder is just the third of the mix: the i-line has already the i3 and the i8 Coupè. However, this is the most stunning one yet. The car, which is ready to rock the streets by 2015, combines sporty lines with the usual e-drive propulsion. Made mostly by super light aluminum, it comes in a shiny metal grey with black and the classic ‘i-blue’ details. The constant and nowadays usual use of LED lights enhance the vehicle’s dynamism. The interiors themselves are a breakthrough.

The bavarian company is rewriting the rules of interior design bringing the connectivity between the car, the user and the outside world to new levels. This includes remote functions like ‘CarFinder’, used via-smartphone to find your car in large parkings. Charging stations and a tons of other data will be featured in the new 3D front interface display. The most interesting aspect of the interior design is the use of leather. Yes, because too many times designers drfocuaw a more concept-like design (Futurama anyone?) instead of focusing the real world. The BMW designers instead reevaluated the importance of organic fabrics, mixing leather with plastic and aluminum with a modern – but still classy – result.

The i8 design is both futuristic but not the weird looking kind that defines many Japanese concepts. You can really imagine it hitting the road right now. We will still have to wait until 2015, but the german designers and engineers at BMW seem to have found the way to embrace the future without trading off any of their current qualities and ideas.
