Yasutoshi Ezumi FW 2012

Walking along the edges of the hexagon painted on the floor, models presented the new autumnal collection designed by Yasutoshi Ezumi. The collection named ”Natural selection” was a part of Tokyo Fashion Week held from the 18th to the 24th of March 2012. The interior, background music, make-up and, most importantly, the clothes leave a strong impression that the designer is determined at each professional step he makes.

Ezumi remained true to his signature knitwear, creating sweaters and knit dresses for this fall collection. Apart from knitted garments and heavy ensembles, there is more romantic side in draping which soothes the whole look. Pieces are very feminine and wearable, both individually and in combination with entire runway combinations. The main color is black and it’s followed by beige, white, gray and navy. Several outfits are decorated with hexagon prints: gray dresses, poncho and quirky tights.

Since the color palette is neutral, the emphasis had to be put on texture. Knit, cashmere and silk are mainly used and some parts are decorated with swaying drapes, as mentioned above. A treat was served for the finale: dresses adorned with features resembling pile of leaves and elegant asymmetric black wrinkled dress.

Yasutoshi Ezumi launched his namesake brand in 2010 and he has been showing his collections at Tokyo Fashion Week since AW collection 2011. He received his formal education at University of the Arts London, Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design. Before returning to Tokyo, he gained experience while working as an assistant at Alexander McQueen and as a knitwear designer at Aquascutum London.
