Susi Belianska

«  I have found photography to be a perfect vehicle through which I can transform my emotions and desires into reality ». This is how Susi Belianska describes in just a few words her fascinating passion for the camera.

But her path hadn’t always been so definite and clear. The young Slovakian photographer of only 32 immigrated to Italy in recent years, and had to go through a lot before achieving her dream career. Belianska has been a model, photographer assistant, location manager, and producer for fashion shootings, until one day she “finally had the courage to take the camera and let all that ardor out”.

Through her shots, beauty is exalted in a very unique way. The main focus of her objective lies on lips and eyes. She highlights these two components by playing with shadows and lights, and by adding strong intense colors, she manages to show viewers multiple sides to what could be a simple photo.
The perception of what we see in her pictures varies constantly. The elements in her photos pass form solid, cold and dark to fluid, colorful and balmy.
Forms and textures almost seem to become tangible in front of our eyes. Her very unique point of view brings the subject on the same level of the environment around it. It almost seems as if the protagonist becomes just a detail.

“Brobdingnagian” is what Jonathan Swift would probably say in referring to Belianska’s passion for photography. Grand, Immense. Belianska started at young age to collect pictures from fashion magazines, she recalls her strong desire to be part of them.
Colors, forms created inside of her emotions and sensations as she started visualizing the alteration of these elements in her head.
Belianska’s inspirations are modern contemporary photographers Avedon, Anne Leibovitz, and Steven Meisel. She also includes masters of classic and surrealist art citing Renoir, Monet, Picasso and Mirò, and directors like Fellini.
