Hana Zárubová

Winner of the Czech Grand Design Award – Fashion Designer of the Year 2012, Hana Zárubová is currently one of the most sought after young designers. With a style of her own, and a series of very unusual concepts for her collections, she’s starting to intrigue more and more fashion aficionados. Her work is so personal it can hardly be compared to anyone else’s. She takes constructivism to a whole new level, a very intimate one.

A self-proclaimed fan of minimalism and life-long lasting quality pieces, Hana strives to achieve the perfect balance between mischievously futuristic shapes and timeless elegance. Her creative strategy is to keep the lines very sharp and clean, while elaborating powerful, bizarre statement silhouettes. From fabulous oversized shoulders, to Victorian collar structures, she manages to pull off a wonderful blend between highly exaggerated lines and a multitude of eye-catching details. For instance, every single piece has a myriad of pleats and folds, unique buttons, zippers placed in the most unexpected places, outer pockets, hidden pockets, hoods and trails. In order to enhance the classy feel of her creations, the designer opts for old school fabrics and textures; however, she adapts these materials to her futuristic vision and needs through a series of unorthodox procedures. Looking at her latest collections, Air Force and Fix you, we witness a truly remarkable spark of ingenuity: gluing neoprene to wool- for enhancing the flexibility of otherwise rather rigid pieces made out entirely by wool. The new resulting texture enables a certain fluidity in movements, constantly reshaping each piece.

Hana Zárubová creations are deeply conceptual and sophisticated, with her work depicting a dark, yet delicate universe made up of parachute silk and heavy wool. As for her brand, she carefully selected an exquisite way to showcase each of her collections so far; the photographical style, the locations, the motifs employed and the hairstyling all build a cohesive, well-developed storyline. So far, it’s been a great journey! We can’t wait to see where her path leads up next.
