Chair Ψ
Geometric shapes with precise, clean cuttings and rounded lines compose and give life to the chair created by Mexican designer Jakob Gomez. The artistʼs studio, based in Monterrey, is specialized in architectural and interior design including mass produced consumer and limited edition pieces, all coordinated to create a seamless spatial experience.
Chair Ψ was developed with the idea of two extension points that subdivide and unite the main structure. The prototype was made with CORIAN due to the transformation capacity of the material. CORIAN is a solid surface material whose versatility allows it to be joined, shaped, and finished into a wide variety of forms. Its use has provided for the undulating, virtually seamless, organic shape of Chair Ψ and its bold effect translucency.
As to why the artist has chosen the Greek letter Ψ (Psi) to name his creation, the answer lays in ambiguity. The letter is commonly used to denote a wave function in quantum mechanics and thus, our best guess is that the name once again emphasizes the underlying wave structure of the design.
