Guardian Towers

The United Arab Emirates will never deceive us with their spectacular architectures and more particularly towers (the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, anyone?).

The Guardian Towers, located in Danet Abu Dhabi, are an example of Abu Dhabi’s fantastic architecture. They were created in 2011 by LAB Architecture Studio in association with ERGA progress. The team was composed of Donald Bates, Oliver Hunt, Peter Davidson, Joseph Sawaya, Faris Hammady.
The Guardian Towers are made of two 19-storey towers (2 podiums plus 17 typical floors) that are characterized and shaped by a distinctive sliced and shifted geometry. They are linked by a podium and offer residences, office space, retail outlets and related services over 53,800 sqm.

The blocks go through a process of slicing, shift and slight rotation, breaking the static tradition rectangular tower blocks. In doing so, the project gives a more dynamic and elegant shape to the façade in relation to the whole building. The building was thought in every details: for example, the double-skin façade for the residential tower is an answer to the Abu Dhabi climate, the recessed windows and balcony doors are partially protected from direct solar penetration, and we cannot forget to mention the very successful café/restaurant located on the north side of the office tower that creates a nice place where residents of the towers can meet.
