Chocolyne Colegiatura Colombiamoda 2012
This year’s Colombiamoda, which was held from the 24th to the 26th of July in Medellin’s Plaza Mayor, continued its 11-year tradition of supporting potential big names. In addition to the well-known artists in the fashion industry, such as Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, public attention was drawn by young designers’ fashion show, or as originally called – Pasarela Jovenes Creadores Chocolyne Colegiatura.
Thirteen fashion students from Tuition, one of the most respected design schools in Colombia, had an opportunity to present the results of their hard work during this prestigious and, without a doubt, the biggest fashion event in Latin America. Every student showcased a few looks at a joint fashion show prepared under the supervision of the teacher Juliana Luna and Edgar Carrascal, who graduated from the same school and presented his collection as a special guest.
- Young designers were creating their pieces inspired by the concept of “the other body”; new looks with unique contemporary corporality and, not to mention, the socio-cultural habits and customs that have transformed into something that can be adapted to modern times and society. It was interesting to watch this parade of eye-catching urban outfits returning to roots and cultures that make today’s Colombia.
Although the theme was the same, designers’ analytical approaches and associations were very varied and there was a little bit of everything: bold quirky prints, connecting incompatible textures and forms, inevitable colorblocking and something that young designers’ fashion shows and haute couture have in common – unusual pieces of clothing that will probably get you an award if you guess how to put them on.
We are happy that Colombiamoda hasn’t given up on pushing these young creative minds, and that is why every year these special fashion shows look like carnivals of unstoppable enthusiasm and talent.
