Laura de Dios Colombiamoda 2012

This year’s Colombiamoda marks the debut of Columbian designer Laura de Dios. Her collaboration with Bogota’s textile company, Miratex turned out to be a great success – the spirit of the designer and the knitting craft of the seamstresses blended perfectly. Laura De Dios was eminently inspired by the landscapes, nature and people of Columbian mountain range Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. The result is the collection shown on the catwalk – Aires de Grandeza (Breaths of Greatness).

Inspired by the snowy mountain peaks of Colombia, the designer shows an array of white and nude pieces. The clothes are light, tender, beautifully knitted and very hippie-chic. As the show progresses, earthly tones are showed off on the runway. The reds, olive greens and browns compliment the abstract lines shown on the garments and evoke the spirit of Latin American culture. Finally, De Dios presents us with an unexpected pop of color: models strut the catwalk in statement turquoise and bright orange pieces, reaching the zenith of the collection. Throughout the collection, the designer insists on 70′s inspired, easygoing cuts. Laura de Dios is all about playfully mixing different shapes, styles and colors and spicing it up with tribal motives and bright colors. The materialization of her ideas is a wearable clothing item that catches the essence of effortlessly chic.
