Maria Elena Villamil Colombiamoda 2012

Colombiamoda 2012 will be hard to forget, least to say. Showcasing explosive collections, dashing Colombian muses heated up the runways in Medellin with their Amazon-like figures. In a swirl of tropical colors, Aztec prints and luscious beach wear, a few avant-garde, constructivist collections popped up grasping the entire audience’s attention. These collections made for an intriguing, pleasant change from the rest of the bright, electric outfits.

Maria Elena Villamil, one of the most beloved south American designers, surprised the public with an exquisite collection suggestively entitled “Geometría”. After 15 years of wondering and exploring the hidden facets and endless possibilities the world of design has to offer, the artist came up with yet another unique concept. Basing her collection on constructivist tailoring and architectural pieces, the designer created an alluring, intense collection.

Inspired by modern architecture and the reflections of sleek sky-scrapers, Maria tried to reinterpret the traditional view of urban gear. The use of rich, smokey tones and luxurious fabrics maximized the hypnotic effect. Wonderfully complementing the rigid, tailored lines of the upper body pieces, flowing maxi skirts revealed perfectly toned, never-ending legs. With a hint of futurism and a drop of romance, the designer strikes exactly the right balance between sober and sexy.

Witty combinations of lengths, oversized vests, bouffant skirts, mermaid tails, deep cut flare jumpsuits resulted in a cool mix of chic and sauvage`. See-through fabrics spiced up the presentation, while the finest silk and chiffon gave out an overall royal feel.
