Nupur Kanoi Lakme Fashion Week W/F 2012
Greek goddesses landed on the fall runway of Lakme Fashion Week. Well, almost, thanks to the Indian fashion designer Nupur Kanoi who handed down vividly the spirit of ancient Greece to India’s fashion scene. For autumn/winter 2012 her inspiration comes from the Trojan and Grecian era – perfection and harmony in everything, even in the way someone dressed. Accompanied by Clint Mansell’s “Requiem for a dream“ in the background, models brought autumnal proposal swaying down the runway.
The collection named “Chapter two“ features more androgynous tailoring softened with surface texturing. Some outfits are entirely covered in embroidery, which particularly enhances the intensity of some asymmetrical pieces. Stern structured and slightly masculine cuts merge with romantic flowery and leafy prints, providing a succesfully blended unity. Detailing give us an impression of uniqueness and handmade design. The color palette is centered around indigo, electric green and blue, and monochrome black and white. Ornamented prints and rich materials such as silk and chiffon lift the collection to a higher level, giving it an extra dose of luxury.
Kanoi insisted on cropped cigarette trousers, stern jackets and loose blouses. Asymmetric translucent shirts that reach almost to the floor resemble the traditional Indian overalls. In our opinion, the dress in black fabric with blue embroided colar and stripes at the bottom and effective all-green suits are this collection’s highlights.
Nupur Kanoi launched her namesake women’s wear label “Nupur Kanoi“ in 2006 in Kolkata, India. Before her professional independence, Kanoi worked as a stylist and fashion writer for Verve magazine in Mumbai. She apprenticed with designer Anamika Khanna, steadily creating her own creative concept for the future (now widely observed) individual work.
