Dion Lee London Fashion Week S/S 2013

It is not that easy to make a ready-to-wear collection that gives out futuristic aesthetics. There is always a chance to turn everything into a parade of costumes that are commonly worn at Star Wars conventions. Australian designer Dion Lee knows exactly how to doze sci-fi details and he has recently proudly showcased his fashion-forward spring/summer 2013 offering in London.

The designer has made a complex mix of several different styles, all of whom bore witness to a serious and proffesional approach to design.
With respect to jackets as key pieces in many runway outfits, we notice that they are beyond doubt distinguished among ordinary biker or slim-fit leather jackets. At the beginning of the show we saw an all-white sports combination consisting of leather sweatpants, a neoprene top and bolero jacket with padded shoulders which announced a bold continuation. Another statement piece is a black armor-like jacket with cutouts on sleeves that look like braids and it is well matched with a high-waisted pencil skirt with the same plaiting effect, a technique that is said to be this designer’s forte.

Accessories are unnecessary, and they would even be redundant, when clothing has its own high-tech detailing. We would single out an exquisite blue dress and blazer with oversized peplums in metallic colors. Similarly, peach frock with neon orange collar forces us to think about space and unimaginable beings who live there. That being said, if Lee failed to give goosebumps to people who sat in the front row, next time he will need to bring a real alien.

Feminine dresses make up the largest part of the collection and they are adorned with leather hemlines, elegant folds and moderate slits.
Some of them have built-in backpacks, because Lee was travelling while designing these clothes and he was guided by the idea of transit.

These innovative garments came in black, white, navy, orange and few shades of blue. It is interesting that there are transparent parts on some pieces, something that we have already seen this year in many other fashion shows. Therefore, we are definitely seeing a trend here and Dion Lee is a part of it.
