Eesmaa, Järvsoo & Veenre
The collection Kolmlõige (Threecut) is a joint project of three Estonian designers. Liisi Eesmaa and Aldo Järvsoo are Tallinn-based fashion designers, both graduates of Estonian Academy of Arts, while Tanel Veenre’s main occupation is designing various forms of jewelry. It is often assumed that when great visionary minds collide, disaster is inevitable, but this trio proved us wrong. Veenre’s eccentric headpieces seemly complimented the garments shown on the runway. The trio’s desire was to create a collection that can be perceived as a contemporary l’art pour l’art project – the goal was to materialize their own artistic visions regardless of current fashion trends and consumer tendencies.
The show kicked off with an explosion of color – the models strutted the runway in psychedelic dresses, courtesy of Eesmaa. As the show progressed, Eesmaa accented the structure rather than the colors – she kept the hues pale while daringly transforming conventional materials, such as silk and tulle, into distinctive and magical forms. Järvsoo focused on dark and grey colors, and presented elegant layered dresses. All of the outfits were spiced up with Veenre’s accessories. For this collection he played with the idea of symmetry and dynamics, using only plastic, knife and his wild imagination.
Throughout the collection, designers boldly played with materials and colors and yet managed to maintain balance by insisting on symmetry and structure. Kolmlõige was an expression of their mutual fascination with space and divine geometry and therefore it can be simply described as a sci-fi fashion fairytale.
