Juanjo Oliva Madrid Fashion Week S/S 2013

In 2004, Juanjo Oliva was just a debutant at the Madrid Fashion Week. Today, he is more than just a household name.  Working as a designer and illustrator for brands such as Sybilla and Zara, winning numerous prestigious awards for fashion design and a running a successful workshop/store, Egotherapy are only some of the achievements of the Madrid-born designer. And he’s only getting started.

The second day of this year’s Mercedes – Benz Madrid fashion week was reserved for Oliva’s primavera/verano 2013 collection. Known for his designs that evoke the spirits of old Hollywood glamour, Juanjo Oliva presented an array of feminine garments, but this time, he did it with a little edge. With the beats of Desire’s hit song ,,Under the spell”, the show took off. Long-sleeved dresses with geometric prints dominated the catwalk. Structured bronze belts accentuated the waist and gave the outfits a futuristic vibe. As the show progressed, the silhouette became more relaxed, and the accent was on necklines and the cuts – Oliva presented elegant pleated gowns in darker hues, but also, some bolder choices made of transparent materials. The whole, somewhat melancholic, retro-futuristic look was complete with clean, polished hair-dos and dark dramatic make-up. Spanish actress and Mugler’s muse, Rossy de Palma closed the show giving it the well-deserved epilogue.
