Sass & Bide London Fashion Week S/S 2013

If you think of Crudella de Vil from Disney’s epic “101 Dalmatians” by looking at black and white garments, you really need to change your mind. And what could be better than take a (very close –you need it!) look at the finest black and white collection of the last (so much gabbed) shows at the LFW – Sass & Bide.

Behind Sass & Bide is an Australian duo formed by Heidi Middleton and Sarah-Jane Clarke, two super fierce designers in love with London and refined clothing.  The designers presented their work at day 1 of London Fashion Week, and being a much-anticipated show expectations were high. They satisfied any possible expectation presenting the freshest looks spiced with basic make-up and hairstyle (fyi, makeup artist was Charlotte Tilbury – not so basic after all).

The LoveShady is a collection that supports the big trend for SS 2013 of a woman feminine yet masculine. LoveShady is a journey where the strong masculine characteristics find counterbalance in feminine sensuality and elegance. The silhouettes are pretty sharp and scuffle with the soft flow of the aerial silks, while the monochromatic palette finds its continuity when black and white come together in metallic sheens. The pieces look like a shell of armour in contrast with the regal hues and the shiny metallic accents that create a sinuous movement. The collection represents a continuous game between the masculine force and the seductive energy of the modern woman; a game between classic tailoring and modern adornments, like the metallic cut-outs that are windows on the female body underneath.

The inspiration came from a trip to South America, but nothing in this collection is flashy. On the contrary, we had cravats complete with flowers, mini dresses with important golden/silver waist embellishments, suit jackets than deepen the  neckline’s plunges and trousers with micro petal-shaped holes. It was more a feeling, an attitude where they get inspiration from, rather than the mere aesthetic.

The collection is a jubilation of textures from feathers to chiffon, from metal to (even!) origami. These SS 2013 pieces are a mixture of fabrics and floral details with the strong use of adornments –Sass & Bide signature. LoveShady is full of sophisticated pieces that are easy to wear in your everyday life, it’s a tribute to tradition but with a confident eye on future.

Now, if you’re still not sure about a total white evening outfit, that means you haven’t looked closely at the collection. And you are missing a stunning Greek-Goddess like feathered white dress with a large cut-out on the back. But if you like neon, Sass & Bide had also a gorgeous mini sleeveless dress (and pants) with awesome neon beading and neon shell details.

I bet you are now wondering where the nearest Sass & Bide shop is.
