Tess Giberson New York Fashion Week S/S 2013

Wondrous muses were spotted strolling down the catwalk for Tess Giberson Spring/Summer 2013 during the fabulous New York Fashion Week. Sensation in a sea of white: no rules, no limits. This collection is all about mixing fabrics and patching dreams out of outrageously clashing textures.

Fashion reverse engineering- inspired concept at its best: take a luxurious chiffon mermaid-tail dress, cut off the sleeves, rip out the back, sew a statement chest piece, throw in an oversized jersey and bam! You’ve got yourself a jaw-dropping, sensual outfit to leave the audience aching for more. Each and every single piece of the collection was the result of assiduous work, or better said, play, with a wide array of fabrics and shapes.

Overall, the selection showcased was a stream of fluid outfits, loosely hugging the body, revealing just the right amount of skin. Projecting the image of wild, raw beauty, untouched by the grayness of an urban decay, or the overwhelming fluo madness, the designer succeeded in creating a rather mystic, holy kind of wonderfulness. There’s a dab of spirituality in the collection, vaguely reminiscing of the distant east, with their secluded temples, exuding equilibrium and Zen.
Whilst watching the serene show, I could not help but think: ‘are there going to be white pigeons, triumphantly set free at the end, or perhaps some helium-filled balloons allowed to float lustfully above the heads of a confused, yet thrilled audience?’.

The decision to go all white was definitely brave and pretty reckless! It’s hard to hold the attention of so many people when you’re going monochromatic. Some will get bored, some will sigh, disappointed by lack of color and print. But, this designer knew just exactly how to tickle everyone’s fancy and challenge their attention. Bombing the runway with exquisite, insane combinations of textures? Yes, please! She brought back white denim, tulle, crochet, seta, twill, leather, pulled off the raddest and purest patchwork,  and made sure it was explosive, unforgettable. Medium to maximal lengths reigned in the shape of flowing dresses and skirts, teamed up with translucent tops or heavy, rigid blazers. The spark was definitely the added by a couple of silky dresses, with a very subtle and delicate marbled print.

Teri managed so gracefully to assemble a collection of utmost refinery and sophistication! Her gala proved to be a true breath of fresh air.
